24 Hours in Hood River, OR

The Ultimate Adventurer’s Playground – An hour east of the bustling city of Portland, Oregon down the Columbia River Gorge, lies the active, sports-based community of Hood River.

With the Columbia River and gorgeous Mt. Hood bordering the town, the activities are endless. From skiing at Timberline, mountain biking on Post Canyon, and then down to the river for kiteboarding, Hood River offers plenty of stoke for a small town in Oregon.

Fuel up for your kite sesh by grabbing a Banyan Acai bowl from Basik Cafe, downtown on Oak Street on your way to the river. This nutritious bowl serves as an excellent anti-aging and weight loss supplement… and tastes amazing! Enjoy the peanut buttery, antioxidant rich, superfood while you decide on which size kite to take out. Then, pump up and put on your wetsuit ladies, because the water is calling!

Splash around for a bit, tacking back and forth along the Columbia River. Then, head upwind to the White Salmon bridge for bigger swell and more consistent wind. Tack around and then kite back to the event site for your lunch break at The Local Grind, a traditional, Hawaiian style food cart right on the dock. The seared Ahi Tacos with a side of the “crack-a-roni” salad are a local’s favorite menu item.

Enjoy a glass of local Slopeswell Cider from neighboring Sandbar Cafe and maybe even hear a local band play live music on the dock as you watch the sun go down.

Stay for a few songs and then grab your biking gear for an evening ride up at Post Canyon. The trails range from beginner to expert; whether you’re shuttling from the top, or starting from Family Man.
