10 Ways to Declutter Your Life

Enough holding onto useless items! Practice living simply and efficiently by cleaning out the unwanted crap from your purse to your social media feed.

MINI TRAVEL ITEMS

We are all guilty of it – collecting those little freebies we get from the Duty Free Shop, hotels, airplanes, or after you’ve purchased your new makeup and perfumes. It is crazy how many samples and things we collect. Think about it, how often do you really use them? If you have not used them in the past few months, you are probably never going to, so get rid of them!

CLOTHES / ACCESSORIES

If you haven’t worn it in a year, it’s time to clear out your closet. Find a thrift store to donate or resell your used clothing and knick-knacks. Make a little extra cash to spend on things you’ll actually wear.

PAPERS, RECEIPTS, MAIL

Stack of mail?
If it’s not important, shred it!

Receipts bunched up together in that one bulging folder? A filing system is highly recommended. If you’re a SuperShe on-the-go there are smaller, more portable filing folders you can take with you. It’s important to save those receipts for end of year expenses and tax purposes. Or, mail regarding your 401k. But consider turning everything digital and storing it on a protected hard drive or Google Drive.

BROKEN THINGS

How many things are you holding onto that you plan to fix some day or send back to the company for a replacement? It might be time to ask yourself if you’re truly going to get around to it, or if you should just move on without them.

OLD MAGAZINES

We all love to hang onto our favorite magazines for the day we think we’ll sit down and give them the attention they need. Fashion, cooking, surf mags – if they are no use to you, declutter your coffee table and make space for the more important books you’ll actually make time to read.

EMPTY OUT YOUR PURSES AND HANDBAGS

How many lip products can a person really own? Expired IDs and credit cards? Gum that’s been there too long? Crumpled receipts and trash? Time to empty and clean those designer bags SuperShe’s.

DETOX YOUR FRIDGE / PANTRY

Get rid of food and condiments that have been sitting there for God knows how long! Old pickles, ketchup, moldy strawberries…consolidate and throw away.

Also, maybe it’s time to ditch those unhealthy items that never expire…bring in some new, fresh, natural, non-acidic foods to fill the space on your shelves.

BOOKS

How many books are you holding onto? Especially the books you’ve already read and will never read again! Share them with a friend or send them to a resale shop.

CLEAN YOUR DESK

SuperShe, Jen Yih, used to work at an agency that enforced the rule – 70% of your desk space should be clear. A minimalist workspace will help you declutter your mind and give you the freedom to work to your fullest potential.

CLEAR YOUR INBOX AND SUBSCRIPTIONS

All those e-mails you never read from brands, blogger sites, airlines, social media spam – unsubscribe and mark those Junk Mail so you never receive them again! Don’t let your inbox get bogged down by unimportant mail.

SOCIAL MEDIA FOLLOWING

When was the last time you really looked at who you’re following? Today, social media plays such a major influence in our lives – make sure you’re following who you love and respect – people who inspire you, make you think, and you want to support.

Refresh and revamp your feed and you’ll be surprised with how much less you spend endlessly scrolling on your phone.
